We Must Amplify

I’ve got no time for any religion. It is the biggest cult on the planet as far as i’m concerned, before capitalism, it’s mad moving cousin.

However, I believe in choice and, I will support everyones right to follow their faith. It is when it is used to control and negatively impact other members of society is when it is a problem.

Mahsa Amini is a Kurdish woman based in Iran who was murdered for not wearing her Hijab ‘correctly’ The Iranian government have the ‘morality’ police who go around attacking any, and anyone who isn’t operating how they believe a ‘good’ muslim should.

They won’t find them when they check in the mirror that’s for sure.

There has been uproar about her death sparking reactions world wide but, people need to understand something.

Just because you hadn’t heard about this before doesn’t mean it’s a new thing. Iranians have been protesting for their rights since the revolution happened in 1975 (with US and UK backing btw) that overthrew the government that wasn’t cooperating with western demands. They thought they were getting in a new government that was more ‘amenable’ to their requirements.

Well that didn’t go to plan.

The government has blocked the internet so people cannot get their messages out. They don’t need or want western intervention, they’ve suffered enough with that.

Let’s not centre ourselves and amplify their voices. Share their posts, support those who doing the work.

Are you on instagram? when you use hashtags, add others that are not about the protesting for greater visibility.

Thanks to a dear friend, I discovered an instagram post by a Musician called Vials who articulates perfectly what is going on and what we can be doing. Watch here

There’s so much going on in the world and it can be demoralising but sometimes, we have to stand up. Because they are coming for all of us.
